F.A.S.T - Stroke Signs

Facial Weakness - Ask the person to smile. Does one side of the face drop?
Arm and Leg Weakness - Ask the person to raise both arms. Does one arm drift down?
Speech Problems - Is their speech slurred or strange?
Time is Critical - Call 911 immediately.

Stroke Symptoms

  • Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg - especially on one side of the body.
  • Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
  • Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes.
  • Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination.
  • Sudden severe headache with no known cause.

If you or a loved one is experiencing any of these symptoms, CALL 911!

FAST stands for face, arms, speech and time, and is being used as part of a campaign by the Stroke Awareness Foundation to educate the public about warning signs of stroke and seek proper medical services immediately. If you think a person is having a stroke, call 9-1-1, especially if the person has trouble with these basic commands.
