Common Myths About Sleep Studies:

Myth: I’m going to have to be late for work the next day after my sleep study.
Truth: “We usually have our patients out in a timely fashion. Some nights are better than others, and we can accommodate patients’ schedules.”

Myth: I’m not overweight, so I can’t have sleep apnea.
Truth: “Sleep apnea means that your breathing stops or gets very shallow while you are sleeping, and it is not exclusive to obesity. Sleep apnea can happen for a number of different reasons, which is why a sleep study is necessary to diagnose and then find an effective treatment.”

Myth: I’m claustrophobic, so there’s no way I’ll be able to wear a CPAP to treat my sleep apnea.
Truth: “Many people are claustrophobic, but we have developed several successful alternative therapies to help patients find an acceptable treatment for their sleep apnea. CPAP is not a “one-size-fits-all” treatment, and we will work with our patients to find the therapy that best meets their needs."
