Hyperbaric Medicine
Singing River Health System is pleased to offer Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy at Singing River Hospital in addition to our comprehensive wound care services. Modern, state-of-the-art hyperbaric chambers are available to treat complex, difficult to heal wounds.
What is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy? Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is a safe, medically prescribed treatment. Patients are placed in a pressurized system for short periods of time, breathing 100 percent oxygen. Concentrated oxygen is delivered to the bloodstream, enhancing the healing process.
How is Hyperbaric Oxygen Given? You will be placed in a comfortable, climate-controlled chamber, which is completely transparent. You may sleep, watch television, listen to music or even watch a movie on the DVD player. A caregiver will be in constant communication with you. Each treatment will last approximately two hours and is given once or twice daily, based on the physician’s orders.
Scheduling Once the request for consultation has been received by the Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine Center, a physician will assess you and determine whether hyperbaric oxygen will benefit your condition. If so, a staff member will answer any questions you may have, ask you some questions, give you a tour of the department and provide you with a full explanation of hyperbaric oxygen therapy. Normal days of operation are Monday through Friday.
