High Definition/Low Dose CT scanner

In our effort to provide the highest quality care to the local community, Singing River Health System is now home to the Coast's first high-definition CT scanner.

This new CT provides unprecedented image quality, giving your doctor sharper detail for a more confident diagnosis, while reducing your exposure to radiation by 50 percent – unlike any other existing CT scanner. This new Gemstone detector in the Discovery CT750 HD enables doctors to see internal structures in the human body as small as a grain of sand in a single rotation.

High-definition 3D images for your doctor and low radiation for you – the quality of care you expect from Singing River Hospital. With this new technology, SRHS will be able to begin offering the following innovative procedures:

  • Coronary CTA - The physicians can capture high definition images of the whole heart to assess coronary artery disease at radiation levels that can be less than the typical average annual background radiation exposure that everyone receives naturally.
  • Stroke Assessment - Once a stroke occurs it is important for the physicians to quickly determine the cause of the stroke and begin treatment.  The Discovery CT750 HD provides the equivalent coverage of up to 500 slices allowing physicians to perform 4D CTA neuro and vascular function studies to help determine the best course of treatment.
  • Low Radiation CAT scanning -  ASIR is a new technological advancement in our Discovery CT750 HD which allows  physicians to immediately lower radiation by up to 50% for examinations in patients of all ages.  Lowering patient radiation is important to all patients, especially pediatrics, women, and patients getting a follow up scan.

"As a Radiologist, I would have been satisfied with either state-of-the-art images OR lower patient radiation dose. With SRH's GE HD750 scanner we get both," said Dr. Roland Mestayer, SRHS Radiologist.
