What to Expect
Camp Bluebird is located directly on the Mississippi Sound, on the grounds of the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory. It is a setting that provides a beautiful view and a relaxing atmosphere.
Any adult, age 18 or older, who has been diagnosed with cancer may attend Camp Bluebird. There are two sessions each year, usually in April and October.
Campers share dormitory style rooms with other campers and counselors. Meals are provided, but individual campers should bring their own bed linens and toiletry items. Camp Bluebird offers a very informal atmosphere with abundant opportunities for recreation, so you’ll want to pack comfortable clothes and walking shoes.
The “camp counselors” who lead the activities are staff members of Singing River Health System, area physicians, military and community volunteers. The camp staff includes nurses, a social worker, a dietician, a pharmacist, a physical therapist, and pastoral care associates.
