Inpatient Physician Services
Hospitalists are physicians who specialize in the care of hospitalized patients.
They typically have limited or no outpatient responsibilities allowing them to devote their full time and attention to patients who are in the hospital.
Once a patient is admitted to Singing River Hospital or Ocean Springs Hospital, the Hospitalist takes on responsibility for their care for the entirety of the patient's stay.
Hospitalists are used strictly on a voluntary basis. That is, the patients and their physicians decide together whether to turn over hospital care to a hospitalist.
Benefits of a Hospitalist Program The Hospitalist role is based on the concept that the more experience a physician has with inpatient hospital patient care, the better the quality of care, and some research has shown this to be true.
More timely care is available because hospitalists are based at Ocean Springs Hospital and Singing River Hospital. A Hospitalist physician is available to provide care 24 hours a day.
Hospitalists specialize in inpatient care - making them very familiar with critical health needs.
How does the Hospitalist know about me? The Hospitalist has been in direct contact with your Primary Care Physician. He/She has relayed all of your pertinent medical information needed to help in your treatment.
What happens when I am discharged from the hospital? Your Primary Care Physician will assume your care after discharge. When you are discharged, IPS sends detailed records to your Primary Care Physician and helps to arrange a follow-up visit with him/her.
