In July 2008, Singing River Health System became the first hospital on the Mississippi Gulf Coast to offer the da Vinci® Surgical System, state-of-the-art robotic technology that assists physicians in performing minimally invasive surgery.
For us, this means yet another way Singing River Health System is bringing world class health care to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. For our surgeons, it means they can perform procedures with a greater range of motion and increased precision.
More importantly for our patients, it means they have access to the most advanced technology available for minimally invasive surgery. Specifically, the technology enables our surgeons to perform procedures through incisions that are as small as one to two centimeters. With procedures that are more minimally invasive than even laparoscopic surgery, patients experience:
- Reduced pain and trauma.
- Reduced blood loss and the need for transfusions.
- Fewer complications.
- Shorter hospital stays.
- Quicker recovery times.
To date, our surgeons have performed prostatectomies, hysterectomies and nephrectomies for patients who are eligible candidates for surgeries using this robotic technology. Over the next few months, our surgical team will be utilizing the da Vinci System to perform additional types of surgical procedures.
