SafeHeart Heart Screening

Monday, August 25, 2014 09:00 AM to 06:00 PM

Singing River Health System invites you to participate in a heart screening at the J.F. Turner Center at Singing River Hospital, 2809 Denny Avenue in Pascagoula. We offer five quick and easy tests that can identify your risk of heart attack, stroke and aneurysm: • Carotid Artery Ultrasound - Identifies buildup of plaque and blockages in the arteries of the neck, which are the leading cause of a stroke. • Carotid Intima Media Thickness - Assesses the risk of atherosclerosis (or hardening of the arteries) by measuring the thickness of the artery walls using non-invasive ultrasound. • Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Ultrasound - Identifies enlargement of the abdominal aorta, a potentially life-threatening condition that often goes undetected until a catastrophic rupture occurs. • Peripheral Vascular Disease Screen - Assesses the circulation in the upper and lower extremities to determine whether or not an individual has an increased risk of heart disease and/or a stroke. • Electrocardiogram (EKG) - Evaluates the presence of atrial fibrillation, an abnormal heart rhythm which may lead to blood clot formation within the heart chambers. This abnormality causes 15% of all strokes. The entire screening takes approximately 15 minutes. Your results will be interpreted by a local cardiologist and a report will be mailed to you within 2 weeks. Cost is $119. Later shifts being held for teachers so please register ahead. To schedule your screening, contact SafeHeart at 228-896-6733.
